MY ROLE

Ornament Design, Production and Art Direction of Installation.

CHALLENGE 

Under the direction of Event Designer Bill Fulghum and in collaboration with the team at Stemz, I was approached to work with them on an event they were designing at the ROM. They were looking for custom Christmas ornaments for a private 'Nutcracker' themed corporate event. The space was extremely large and required equally large ornaments. The museum would be open to the public that day, so we had a very short time for set-up. To get around this, magnets were used to quickly hang the ornaments from the ceiling, also allowing for a quick tear-down. This meant I had a weight restriction of 4 lbs. per ornament. Wood was the obvious choice for the ornaments, but they had to be thin and light. This project was all about finding the right balance of size for the space, and the best material to work within our restrictions.

HIGHLIGHT

The Dinosaurs! Seeing my work hung in the ROM amongst the dinosaurs was a real highlight for me.
